Using the Tidy Numbers Strategy
We are learning how to use the Tidy Number strategy using tens frames. When we use this strategy we make a ten using the numbers in the equation so it is easier to count. For example if we had the equation 6+5 = ? We could take 4 from the 5 and give it to the 6 to make our equation 10 + 1 = 11. We use basic facts that we know to help use find the answer.

Rereketanga and Porihanga
Today is a week since the terrible attack on the Muslim community in Christchurch. At Paparore School we paid our respects to those who lost their lives in the horrible attack. We stood in silence for one minute and drew, colored in and created artwork to show our love and support for them. In doing so we were showing our school values of Rereketanga - Diversity and Porihanga - Community and Partnerships.

Kapa Haka
As part of our school kaupapa we encourage all of our students to take part in and learn about the Maori culture. We our lucky enough to have two amazing Kapa Haka tutors teaching our students the art of haka, waiata, powhiri and other Maori tikanga (values and beliefs). Our senior group (Te Kauru and Te Puawai) enjoy learning new haka, waiata and their actions every Tuesday.

Monday Morning Sport
Every Monday we head out onto the field for our Monday morning sport session. Each week we try new games that are fun and encourage us to be active. This is our favorite game so far.
One person from each team hops through the hoops until they get to each other. They then have to play Paper, Scissors, Rock to see who continues and who has to go back to their team. The winner continues hoping until he/she gets to the next person and again they battle. If someone hops all the way to the last hoop, without loosing a battle, their team gets a point.
