Google Hangout Scavenger Hunt

During our Google Hangouts we have been having a lot of fun participating in scavenger hunts. One day Mr Masters gave us a letter and we had to find something beginning with that letter. Even Sir joined in! One of the letters we had to find was 'H'. As we went through all the things that everyone found that started with the letter 'H' we had to laugh when it got to Mason T. He found a 'Harry'. We all laughed!

Here is Mason with the 'Harry' he found:

Kiarn's Bug Hotel

Bug Hotel

Check out the awesome work Kiarn and his whanau have done:

WALT: We are leaning to identify different materials and equipment needed to build a bug hotel.

Materials and Equipment List:

Saw
Drill
Screws
Wood
Hammer
Tea tree sticks
Metal hooks
String

Building My Bug Hotel:

We gathered wood from around our house. We found Tea Tree, Japanese Cedar and Macrocarpa which is wood that we have collected from my Nana and Poppa’s farm.

In the top box we have hung herbs using metal hooks and string. We also put an air plant in because it doesn’t need soil to grow,  it only needs water to grow.

In the next box we have a birds nest out of our garden. Don’t worry there were no birds in it when we found it. There is also a Flax flower, Palm tree stick, Magnolia bud, and an off cut of wood.

And finally the last two boxes have bamboo, shells, flowers, Tea Tree and pine cones.

Descriptive Vocabulary

WALT: We are learning to use descriptive vocabulary in our writing.

Kiarn has been working hard from home to write exceptional stories, adding descriptive vocabulary to add effect and help the reader paint a clear picture in their mind of what is happening in the story. Take a look at Kiarn's awesome writing.

Story starter!
The dinosaurs all gave a simultaneous roar. It was coming…
Moments before, the lake had been quiet and peaceful. As the golden sun rose above the shadowy, jagged mountains on the horizon, creatures came from far and wide to enjoy their early morning drink from the tranquil pool. All they could hear was the gentle lapping of water and contented grunts as thirsts were quenched.
Then they had heard them: footsteps in the distance. Thump…Thump…Thump…It could mean only one thing: a T-Rex…
Can you continue the story of the dinosaurs?
All of a sudden a T-Rex popped out of the bushes. It started chasing the dinosaurs with lightning speed. The other dinosaurs were trembling with fear as they were running for their lives. All of the dinosaurs got away but the T-Rex didn’t care because he wanted to be a herbivore anyway. So off he went to eat some luscious green leaves and all the dinosaurs were happy.
What part of Kiarn's story did you like the most?

Creative Writing:

WALT: We are learning to use descriptive detail in our writing and elaborate on our ideas.

Liv's dangerous pet:

I have a pet dragon. It is a water dragon. Her name is Splash. She spends most of her time underwater and her favourite food is ice blocks. She is very fast and very powerful. She can breath any form of water like ice and snow. She changes colors to light blue and white when she is in the snow and to light blue and purple when she is underwater.

Kade's dangerous pet:

I have got a pet dragon called Ranger. He will  protect me forever. We will not forget each other because we are special mates. Ranger has wings so he can fly. He takes me to school every day and he will take me home everyday. He breathes fire at everyone who is mean to me. They will  get scorched and also we play hide and go seek together and with my cousins. We get Ranger to cook for us. When we get him to make dinner for us he warms the bath up too. He breathes his fire on the tub to heat it up for us. We have to ask  Ranger to warm up the bath if it gets cold so we don't waste water. He's fun to play with.

His favorite food is corn and scraps and we get Ranger to eat the old food. When he got older he ate 6000 chickens.

Cassidy's dangerous pet:

My dragon is very sad because someone  was very mean to her friend.she is going to play in the sand.she was taking the sand to the ladder , it needs sand.My dragon is  making a sandcastle on the roof of the house. The sandcastle has shells on it the shells are green and pink. My dragon put the sandpit on the roof to trick Mr Masters. My dragon is going to the castle  because she is happy.

Cricket Festival Day

WALT: We are learning how to play cricket, using the correct techniques.

We were very fortunate to participate in Cricket sessions with Kea from Northland Cricket, last year. Unfortunately we did not get the opportunity to have our Cricket Festival Day last year, so we had our own Cricket Festival Day today. The kids enjoyed the few minutes we got to enjoy playing cricket until it started to rain. We all ran for cover and decided to plan another cricket day in the near future.
